Square Feet - 20,748
Construction Cost - $6,127,360
The 17,601 square foot area commonly called the “horseshoe” contains the new Birthing Center and Medical/Surgical unit. This second phase of strategic facility plan adds 29 private rooms to the hospital, 16 in the Birthing Center and 13 in Med/Surg.
The environment of Howard Regional’s new 9,702 square foot Birthing Center has been designed to make childbirth one of the most memorable experiences of the patients’ lives. From sixteen new, private, post-partum rooms to two new Labor/Delivery/Recovery rooms (bringing the total to eight); everything focuses on being able to deliver outstanding care in a place where comfort, health, and happiness come first.
An operating room dedicated to Cesarean-section, a six-bed intensive care nursery staffed by nurses who specialize in natology, a new nursery, and the HUGS and KISSES Infant Protection system rounds out the new Birthing Center Wing.
The Med/Surg area “horseshoe” shaped addition to the west end of the existing second floor of the main campus building provides diagnostic, therapeutic and support services to patients with diagnoses related to medical, surgical, orthopedic and geriatric conditions. The 13 new private rooms plus the existing 18 semi-private beds brings a total of 31 Med/Surg beds to Howard Regional. Telemetry overflow from the 30-bed Telemetry Medical Surgical unit will also be accommodated.
The addition includes 3rd floor penthouse mechanical space and roof top helipad.
