As the need for in-patient beds arose over the course of three year, three packages were developed to renovate the east and south wings of second, fourth, and fifth floors. The existing rooms were double occupancy and lacked private showers. The existing narrow building footprint and interior plumbing stacks necessitated economy of space and centralized nursing stations. The space constraints drove the concept of private, wet restrooms in lieu of fiberglass shower units. Each wing has ten patient rooms for a nursing ration of 1:2. All rooms were outfitted with in-wall gases and patient lifts.
